Taiwan and Korea follow.

In its forecast for manufacturing capacity expenditures, SEMI stated that global investments in equipment will grow by 2% this year to $110 billion, marking the sixth consecutive year of growth, driven by investments in tools needed for producing chips for artificial intelligence.

The impact of artificial intelligence is likely to be even stronger in 2026, SEMI added, when investments are expected to rise by another 18%.

China is the largest consumer of semiconductors, and companies there have been expanding chip production capacity for years. However, they started a massive push in mid-2023 and 2024 with government support as part of efforts to reduce dependence on imported chips and in response to restrictions imposed by the U.S. government.

ASML (ASML.AS), the largest producer of chip equipment, forecasts sales of 32-38 billion euros in 2025, with a market share of over 25% in the lithography subsector, where it holds a dominant position.

Other leading equipment manufacturers include Applied Materials (AMAT.O), ASML (ASML.AS), LAM Research, and Tokyo Electron (8035.T), although Chinese equipment makers such as Naura (002371.SZ), AMEC, and Huawei (HWT.UL) through its subsidiary SiCarrier are growing rapidly.

Chinese expenditures are expected to fall to $38 billion in 2025, down 24% from $50 billion in 2024, but still surpass the $21.5 billion expected in Korea, where SK Hynix (000660.KS) and Samsung Electronics (005930.KS) are expanding memory chip production capacity.

Expenditures in Taiwan, where the leading foundry TSMC produces AI chips for Nvidia and others, are projected at $21 billion.

The U.S. and Japan are expected to spend $14 billion each in 2025, while Europe is set to spend $9 billion.

["post-5351","nwes","type-nwes","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry

China is once again leading in semiconductor production: investments in equipment will reach 38 billion dollars by 2025 - INKR

<meta property="og:description" content="China will continue to invest more in new equipment for computer chip production than any other geographical region in 2025, despite a significant year-on-year decrease, according to a report by the industrial group SEMI published on Wednesday.
