On Wednesday, Intel hired three semiconductor industry executives for engineering and networking roles as part of CEO Lip-Bu Tan’s plan to revamp the leadership team and reorganize the struggling company.
Tan’s strategy includes significant workforce reductions, onboarding new management talent, focusing on customer needs, and successfully transforming the company’s foundry business.
Since his appointment as CEO in March, Tan has begun “flattening” the leadership structure — with many key operational units now reporting directly to him. Notably, Greg Ernst, a sales department veteran, was appointed Chief Revenue Officer. He previously led Intel’s U.S. sales and marketing division.
In line with Intel’s renewed engineering focus, the company brought in Srinivasan Iyengar, Jean-Didier Allegreuci, and Shailendra Desai for top engineering roles.
“Greg, Srini, JD, and Shailendra are world-class leaders with impeccable reputations in our industry. Each will play a vital role in shaping the future of our business,” said Tan.
Iyengar, who joined from Cadence Design Systems, will head Intel’s new Customer Engineering Center.
Allegreuci, formerly a top executive at Rain AI, will lead AI system-on-chip development.
Desai, who came from Google, will lead the design of new AI chip architectures.
Iyengar will report directly to Tan, while Allegreuci and Desai will report to Intel’s CTO and Chief AI Officer, Sachin Katti.
Additionally, Intel has reorganized its board of directors to focus more closely on semiconductor industry priorities. Three board members will not seek re-election at the 2025 annual shareholders’ meeting.
